Veo3o1 Prompt Troubleshooting Checklist

This page is for a specific moment: a Veo3o1 task completed, but the result did not preserve the subject, follow the action, connect the frames, or use the composition you expected. For a start-to-finish writing method, read the Veo 3.1 prompt guide. Use this checklist when you need to identify what to change next.

Start with the task record

Before editing the prompt, record the settings used for the result:

• generation mode;
• Lite, Fast, or Quality;
• duration and aspect ratio;
• resolution;
• uploaded images and their order;
• seed, if one was set;
• the exact prompt.

A different model, duration, image set, or seed can change the result even when the wording is identical. Compare like with like.

Check whether the mode matches the problem

Text to Video

Use this when no uploaded visual must be preserved. If the prompt depends on an exact face, package, costume, or opening composition, text alone may be the wrong control.

First & Last Frames

Use one image to define the opening or two images to guide both endpoints. If the result begins correctly but drifts, simplify the movement between the frames. Two frames that imply unrelated locations, lighting, or subjects force the model to invent a difficult transition.

Reference Images

Use one to three images when identity or visual language matters more than exact endpoints. The images should agree on the person, product version, wardrobe, materials, and palette. Remove a reference that conflicts with the others.

Diagnose the visible symptom

The main action is missing

Put one action close to the subject and write it as a direct verb.

Weak:

A cyclist in a city, energetic, cinematic, dramatic light.

Clearer:

A cyclist accelerates through one wet intersection while the camera tracks beside the bicycle at street level.

If the prompt contains several actions, locations, or time jumps, split it into separate shots.

The camera movement is wrong

Separate subject motion from camera motion. “The dancer turns clockwise while the camera remains locked” is clearer than mixing several movement adjectives. Ask for one camera behavior: locked shot, slow push-in, lateral tracking, restrained orbit, tilt, or pull-back.

A person or product changes appearance

Use the strongest reference first, remove contradictory images, and repeat only the identity details that must remain fixed. Reduce long occlusion, rapid rotation, heavy motion blur, costume changes, and lighting changes in the same short shot.

The start or end frame is not respected

Check that the two frames show the same subject and a plausible path between compositions. Describe the transition, not the images the model can already see. If only the opening must match, use one frame instead of adding an unnecessary endpoint.

The result contains extra objects or text

State the positive composition first, then add a short exclusion such as “clean background, no added text, no extra objects.” A long negative list can compete with the main instruction, so keep exclusions limited to visible problems.

Vertical composition feels cropped

Choose 9:16 before submitting. Keep the subject in the central column and leave space near the top or bottom for platform overlays. Do not write a horizontal establishing shot and expect the model to solve the mobile crop afterward.

Change one variable per retry

A useful retry answers a question. Keep the model, seed, duration, images, and other prompt sections unchanged while testing one change. If you rewrite everything at once, you cannot tell which instruction improved or damaged the result.

A practical order is:

1. remove contradictions;
2. reduce the scene to one main action;
3. clarify subject motion;
4. clarify camera behavior;
5. simplify or replace image inputs;
6. change the model or duration only after the instruction is clear.

Review cost and delivery before another run

The generator shows the current credit reservation before submission. A retry creates a new task; an extension or enhancement creates a separate result and has its own displayed cost. Processing time varies with queue and provider conditions.

Pre-submit checklist

• The selected mode matches the type of control I need.
• The prompt names one primary subject and one main action.
• Subject motion and camera motion are separate.
• Uploaded images agree on identity, product version, lighting, and palette.
• First and last frames describe a plausible transition.
• The aspect ratio matches the delivery surface.
• Exclusions are short and tied to a visible problem.
• I checked the exact credit reservation.
• I changed only one meaningful variable from the previous attempt.
